Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to support and enhance financial reporting and accounting operations in a project-based environment. This role is heavily involved in overseeing project profitability, improving balance sheet reconciliation accuracy, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, and improving efficiency in operational accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the month end close and production of value-added monthly financial statements, while educating senior managers on the results.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement trend analyses for compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Identify inefficiencies in accounting & business processes, and drive improvements and automation where possible
  • Prepare and oversee project WIP evaluation, and work with Operations to identify drivers and remediation steps in project performance and profitability.
  • Oversee payroll accounting and adjustments to ensure expenses are properly classified and payroll liabilities reasonably valued.
  • Develop and enhance reporting tools and dashboards to support better financial oversight of company performance.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and re-forecasting of revenue and gross profits in a project-based environment.
  • Lead and manage a team of 3 accountants on GL and operational accounting.
  • Maintain and update the vendor agreements, interfacing regularly with Purchasing.
  • Manage the year-end audit, responding timely and accurately to weekly audit requests.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Oversee sales and use tax reporting for multiple states.

Work Experience and Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 7+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role in a small to mid-sized company.
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including payroll accounting.
  • Proactive mindset with a disposition towards process improvement.
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational, project management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities in an entrepreneurial, deadline-driven environment.
